Here are the top performers from Week 0 of the high school football season along volleyball and softball from the week of Aug. 17-22. Each week we do top performers for all sports, so please send nominees on Saturday or Sunday to Brandon Shields. Deadline is every Sunday night at 8 p.m.

Player of the Week: Wade Smith, RB, Jackson Prep: Rushed 31 times for 188 yards with three touchdowns in the Patriots 42-35 win over UMS-Wright (Alabama.).

TOP PERFORMERS

FOOTBALL

Garrett Adcock, RB, Leake Academy: Carried the ball 23 times for 143 yards in the Rebels 28-6 win over Simpson Academy.

Austin Banks, QB, MRA: Went 23-of-41 passing for 228 yards with two touchdowns in the Patriots 29-14 loss to Ravenwood (Tenn.).

Joh Hudson Bates, WR/DB, Tri-County Academy: Had two catches for 125 yards with a touchdown and seven tackles on defense in the Rebels 42-0 win over Canton Academy.

Aaric Beasley, RB, Jackson Academy: Ran the ball nine times for 106 yards and three touchdowns in the Raiders 46-0 win over Oak Forest Academy (La.).

Ethan Butler, RB, East Rankin: Had 10 carries for 282 yards with five touchdowns in the Patriots 50-12 win over Acadiana (La.).

Majure Chandler, QB, Leake Academy: Went 14-of-20 passing for 294 yards with two touchdowns and ran the ball six times for 10 yards and touchdowns in the Rebels 28-6 win over Simpson Academy.

Jack Dalton, WR/P, MRA: Had 12 receptions for 127 yards and punted three times for an average of 51.3 yards per punt in the Patriots 29-14 loss to Ravenwood (Tenn.).

Paxton Errington, WR, Copiah Academy: Caught six passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns in the Colonels 35-7 win over Madison St. Joe.

Luke Essary, QB, Jackson Prep: Went 7-of-15 passing for 121 yards with two touchdowns in the Patriots 42-35 win over UMS-Wright (Ala.).

Herrin Goodman, RB, Jackson Prep: Rushed eight times for 133 yards with a touchdown and added a 34-yard touchdown catch in the Patriots 42-35 win over UMS-Wright (Ala).

Hamp Haarala, WR, Lamar School: Hauled in six receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown in the Raiders 41-0 win over Winston Academy.

Kirkland Hudson, LB, Jackson Academy: Totaled 19 tackles and two tackles for loss in the Raiders 46-0 win over Oak Forest Academy (La.).

Cade Hunt, RB/LB, Tri-County Academy: Ran the ball 10 times for 125 yards with three touchdowns and had six tackles on defense in the Rebels 42-0 win over Canton Academy.

Collin McIntyre, RB, Hartfield Academy: Had 24 carries for 136 yards and three touchdowns in the Hawks 41-13 win over Washington School.

Bobby Moore, RB/DB, Copiah Academy: Had two touches for 86 yards with a rushing touchdown and had an interception return for a touchdown in the Colonels 35-7 win over Madison St. Joe.

Brannan Overstreet, QB, Magnolia Heights: Went 10-of-16 passing for 144 yards with three touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown in the Chiefs 42-6 win over North Delta.

Easton Page, WR, Leake Academy: Hauled in seven catches for 217 yards and two touchdowns in the Rebels 28-6 win over Simpson Academy.

Joseph Portera, WR, Starkville Academy: Caught four passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns in the Volunteers 42-17 win over Marshall Academy.

Jack Price, RB, Magnolia Heights: Had 110 all-purpose yards with a receiving touchdown and a rushing touchdown in the Chiefs 42-6 win over North Delta.

Sil Santucci, QB, Starkville Academy: Went 8-of-15 passing for 177 yards with four touchdowns and rushed four times for 43 yards and a touchdown in the Volunteers 42-17 win over Marshall Academy.

Braylan Short, WR, Jackson Academy: Had five receptions for 93 yards with a touchdown and added a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the Raiders 46-0 win over Oak Forest Academy (La.).

Jay Shuff, QB, Central Hinds: Went 5-of-8 passing for 138 yards with two touchdowns, ran the ball eight times for 40 yards with a touchdown, and had eight tackles, two pass break-ups, and a interception in the Cougars 35-7 win over Centreville Academy.

Jack Teasley, QB, Copiah Academy: Went 16-of-23 passing for 252 yards and three touchdowns in the Colonels 35-7 win over Madison St. Joe.

Brennan Templeton, LB, Starkville Academy: Recorded 10 tackles, two tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble in the Volunteers 42-17 win over Marshall Academy.

Khari Towner, RB, Lamar School: Ran the ball 27 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns in the Raiders 41-0 win over Winston Academy.

Jimmy Washburn, LB, Tri-County Academy: Recorded 10 tackles in the Rebels 42-0 win over Canton Academy.

VOLLEYBALL

Kristen Bailey, Brandon: In seven matches totaled 44 kills and 23 blocks in the Lady Bulldogs 3-1 win over Petal, 3-0 win over Meridian, 2-0 win over Faith Christian (Ala.), 2-1 win over St. Paul’s (Ala.), 2-1 win over Auburn (Ala.), 2-1 loss to Homewood (Ala.), and 2-0 loss to Pope (Ga.).

Lorin Bass, Jackson Academy: In six matches totaled 18 kills, 17 blocks, eight digs, and five aces in the Lady Raiders 2-0 win over Moody (Ala.), 2-0 win over Arab (Ala.), 2-0 win over Trinity Presbyterian (Ala.), 2-0 win over Vestavia Hills (Ala.), 2-0 win over Ocean Springs, and 2-0 loss to Valor Prep (Tenn.).

Skyler Boddy, Brandon: In seven matches totaled 46 kills, 11 aces and six blocks in the Lady Bulldogs 3-1 win over Petal, 3-0 win over Meridian, 2-0 win over Faith Christian (Ala.), 2-1 win over St. Paul’s (Ala.), 2-1 win over Auburn (Ala.), 2-1 loss to Homewood (Ala.), and 2-0 loss to Pope (Ga.).

Carson Caraway, Jackson Academy: In six matches totaled 70 kills, 48 digs, 12 aces, and six blocks in the Lady Raiders 2-0 win over Moody (Ala.), 2-0 win over Arab (Ala.), 2-0 win over Trinity Presbyterian (Ala.), 2-0 win over Vestavia Hills (Ala.), 2-0 win over Ocean Springs, and 2-0 loss to Valor Prep (Tenn.).

Claire Christian, George County: In nine matches totaled 182 kills, 143 digs, 25 aces, 15 assists, and 10 blocks in the Lady Rebels 3-2 loss to Vancleave, 3-2 win over St. Luke’s (Ala.), 2-1 win over D’Iberville, 2-0 win over Oak Grove, 2-1 loss to West Harrison, 2-0 win over Oak Grove, 2-1 win over St. Luke’s (Ala.), 2-0 win over Faith Academy (Ala.), and 2-1 loss to Vancleave.

Izzy Clark, Caledonia: In three matches totaled 20 assists, 13 digs, 12 kills, and 10 aces in the Lady Cavaliers 3-0 win over West Point, 3-0 win over Columbus, and 3-1 win over Ripley.

Abby Cowart, Poplarville: In two matches totaled 27 digs, 23 kills, four assists, three aces, and a block in the Lady Hornets 3-0 win over Sacred Heart and in a 3-2 loss to OLA.

Anna Holladay Craft, Jackson Academy: In six matches totaled 70 digs, 10 aces, and 10 assists in the Lady Raiders 2-0 win over Moody (Ala.), 2-0 win over Arab (Ala.), 2-0 win over Trinity Presbyterian (Ala.), 2-0 win over Vestavia Hills (Ala.), 2-0 win over Ocean Springs, and 2-0 loss to Valor Prep (Tenn.).

Layla Daley, Ocean Springs: In seven matches totaled 48 kills, 44 digs, and eight aces in the Lady Greyhounds 3-1 win over Gulfport, 3-1 win over D’Iberville, 2-1 loss to Albertville (Ala.), 2-0 win over Mobile Christian (Ala.), 2-0 win over Gardendale (Ala.), 2-0 loss to Austin (Ala.), and 2-0 loss to Jackson Academy.

Kate Denman, Lewisburg: In eight matches totaled 66 kills, 22 digs, and eight blocks in the Lady Patriots 3-0 loss to Arlington (Tenn.), 3-2 loss to Germantown, 2-0 win over St. Clair County (Ala.), 2-1 win over Guntersville (Ala.), 2-0 win over Tuscaloosa County (Ala.), 2-1 loss to Bayside Academy (Ala.), 2-1 win over Lamar School, and 2-0 loss to Hoover (Ala.).

Emerson Dorr, MRA: In seven matches totaled 97 kills, 45 digs, and 14 aces in the Lady Patriots 3-0 loss to Lamar School, 2-0 win over Clay-Chalkville (Ala.), 2-1 win over Alexandria (Ala.), 2-1 loss to Helena (Ala.), 2-1 win over Bob Jones (Ala.), 2-0 win over St. John Paul II (Ala.), and 2-1 loss to Spain Park (Ala.).

Maryan Ducksworth, Clinton: In six matches totaled 36 assists, 22 digs, and eight aces in the Lady Arrows 3-1 loss to Starkville, 3-0 loss to Oxford, 2-0 loss to Pelham (Ala.), 2-0 loss to Pope (Ga.), 2-0 loss to Buckhorn (Ala.), and 2-1 loss to Opelika (Ala.).

Ceci Duhon, PCS: In three matches totaled 19 kills, 13 blocks, and seven aces in the Lady Bobcats 3-0 win over St. Patrick, 3-0 win over West Marion, and 3-2 win over South Jones.

Jayla Hicks, Clinton: In six matches totaled 50 digs, 10 aces, and five assists in the Lady Arrows 3-1 loss to Starkville, 3-0 loss to Oxford, 2-0 loss to Pelham (Ala.), 2-0 loss to Pope (Ga.), 2-0 loss to Buckhorn (Ala.), and 2-1 loss to Opelika (Ala.).

Sadie Holyfield, Puckett: In two matches totaled 15 kills, 13 digs, and six aces in the Lady Wolves 3-0 win over Newton and 3-1 loss to Northeast Jones.

Kate Jordan, PCS: In three matches totaled 86 assists, 20 digs, and 12 aces in the Lady Bobcats 3-0 win over St. Patrick, 3-0 win over West Marion, and 3-2 win over South Jones.

Isabella Kerstetter, Caledonia: In three matches totaled 42 assists, 15 digs, and 10 aces in the Lady Cavaliers 3-0 win over West Point, 3-0 win over Columbus, and 3-1 win over Ripley.

Remy McIntosh, DeSoto Central: In six matches totaled 62 digs and six aces in the Lady Jaguars 3-2 win over Tupelo, 3-0 loss to St. Mary’s (Tenn.), and in four matches at the Juanita Boddie Tournament in Alabama.

Lylah Menefee, PCS: In three matches totaled 52 kills, 21 digs, seven aces, and six blocks in the Lady Bobcats 3-0 win over St. Patrick, 3-0 win over West Marion, and 3-2 win over South Jones.

Taelyn Mingo, Neshoba Central: In seven matches totaled 67 digs, 57 kills, and 10 aces in the Lady Rockets 3-1 win over New Hope, 3-1 win over NE Lauderdale, 2-0 win over NE Lauderdale, 2-0 win over Pearl, 2-0 win over Florence, 2-0 win over Pelahatchie, and in a 2-1 loss to NE Lauderdale.

Mary Grace Pearson, Stone: In five matches total 49 kills and 20 aces in the Lady Tomcats 3-0 win over Moss Point, 3-0 win over Lumberton, 3-2 loss to Picayune, 2-0 win over North Forrest, and 2-0 win over Heidelberg.

Layla Reeves, Stone: In five matches total 40 digs in the Lady Tomcats 3-0 win over Moss Point, 3-0 win over Lumberton, 3-2 loss to Picayune, 2-0 win over North Forrest, and 2-0 win over Heidelberg.

Ryleigh Register, Ocean Springs: In seven matches totaled 26 kills, 12 blocks, 12 digs, and two aces in the Lady Greyhounds 3-1 win over Gulfport, 3-1 win over D’Iberville, 2-1 loss to Albertville (Ala.), 2-0 win over Mobile Christian (Ala.), 2-0 win over Gardendale (Ala.), 2-0 loss to Austin (Ala.), and 2-0 loss to Jackson Academy.

Angel Roland, Hartfield Academy: In two matches totaled 16 digs in the Lady Hawks 3-2 win over Lamar School and 3-0 win over Simpson Academy.

McKenna Spears, South Pontotoc: Had seven blocks and two kills in the Lady Cougars 3-0 loss to East Union.

Aubree Thomas, Puckett: In two matches totaled 33 kills, 27 digs, and seven aces in the Lady Wolves 3-0 win over Newton and 3-1 loss to Northeast Jones.

Addison Willis, Stone: In five matches total 95 assists and 22 aces in the Lady Tomcats 3-0 win over Moss Point, 3-0 win over Lumberton, 3-2 loss to Picayune, 2-0 win over North Forrest, and 2-0 win over Heidelberg.
