MADISON — Defending champion Warren Central stayed unbeaten Friday night, outlasting Germantown 42-35 on the road as quarterback Nash Morgan became the first player in Warren County history with 30 career passing touchdowns and 30 career rushing touchdowns.
Morgan finished the night with 21 rushes for 213 yards and a touchdown, giving him six total touchdowns through three games this season. He was 7-of-13 passing for 68 yards and another score.
The Vikings improved to 3-0. Germantown fell to 1-2.
After a scoreless first quarter, Germantown opened the scoring in the second with a Langston Branson 21-yard touchdown pass. A blocked extra point attempt gave the Mavericks a 6-0 early lead.
Warren Central answered when Morgan broke free for a 56-yard touchdown run. Nick Lee’s extra point put the Vikings in front 7-6. Jamal Washington recovered a fumble on the ensuing series, setting up Devin Demby to score from 8 yards out to make it 14-6.
Branson tied it 14-14 with 25 seconds left in the half, connecting with Newton and converting the 2-point try. He put Germantown back ahead 21-14 with 6:23 remaining in the third on a 38-yard touchdown run. Morgan answered again, finding Layton Lee for an 11-yard scoring pass to knot it at 21.
Warren Central took control in the fourth quarter with two long scoring drives and held off Germantown’s late push. Morgan finished with one rushing touchdown and one passing touchdown in the win. Branson accounted for three scores — two passing and one rushing — for the Mavericks.
The victory kept the Vikings unbeaten heading into next week’s trip to Vicksburg. Germantown visits Neshoba Central.
Warren Central has now beaten Germantown in every meeting since the series began in 2019.
