Here is the Mississippi Gridiron Metro Team of the Week for week one of the high school football season. These players are selected from the metro tri-county area. Players selected to our statewide team are not duplicated on the metro team.
Austin Banks | Quarterback, MRA
MRA quarterback Austin Banks completed 22-of-33 passes for 258 yards with four touchdowns in the Patriots 30-27 road win over Jefferson Davis County.
Langston Branson | All-Purpose, Germantown
Germantown quarterback Langston Branson completed 6-of-11 passes for 100 yards with two touchdowns and ran the ball eight times for 118 yards and three touchdowns in the Mavericks 60-27 win over Northwest Rankin.
Aaric Beasley | Running Back, Jackson Academy
Jackson Academy running back Aaric Beasley rushed 30 times for 229 yards and two touchdowns in the Raiders 16-0 win over McGill-Toolen (Ala.).
Jack Dalton | Wide Receiver, MRA
MRA wide receiver Jack Dalton had ten receptions for 132 yards and two touchdowns in the Patriots 30-27 win at Jefferson Davis County.
Mason Payne | Defensive Line, Madison Central
Madison Central defensive tackle Mason Payne had five total tackles with all being solo stops and all five tackles for loss in a 17-7 win at Pearl. Payne also had three quarterback hurries.
Gaines Reeves | Linebacker, Jackson Prep
Jackson Prep linebacker Gaines Reeves totaled 17 tackles with two tackles for loss in the Patriots 38-24 win over Parklane Academy.
Kolby George | Defensive Back, Terry
Terry defensive back Kolby George had two interceptions in the Bulldogs 55-6 win over Murrah. He also had three catches for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Ross Beavers | Kicker, Madison Central
Madison Central kicker Ross Beavers was 2-of-2 on extra points and hit his only field goal attempt from 46 yards in the Jaguars 17-7 win at Pearl. He also kicked three of his four kickoffs into the endzone for touchbacks.
