MRA faces Ravenwood (Tenn.) in Davis Bowl Part II

-

It will be a house divided in the Davis household this week.

It’s Davis Bowl part two as Madison-Ridgeland Academy makes a six-and-a-half-hour trip up to Nashville suburb Brentwood to face Ravenwood (Tenn.) in the season opener for on Friday night.

Ravenwood offensive coordinator is Hayden Davis, the son of MRA head coach Herbert Davis.

In the first meeting last season Ravenwood came away with a 28-24 win in a game where MRA held a 17-6 lead at halftime.

“I’m excited about playing a great Ravenwood team and making the trip to Brentwood that will make us better if we accept the challenge,” said MRA head coach Herbert Davis. “I’m looking forward to this being over for me and Hayden, it has been tougher than we thought on our family. But we do talk, just more about other things than football.  But we are going to play, so the competitive nature in us makes us want to win, obviously.  It will be a big-time atmosphere.”

MRA will be breaking in a new quarterback in Austin Banks to lead the offense. Running back Colson O’Cain will lead the rushing attack that will lead on a big and veteran offensive line. Caleb Unger, Brody Brown, and Brooks Aycock will lead up front. The top three receivers from last year are gone but Holt Adams and Jack Dalton will look to be the targets on the outside.

Defense is where there will be more new faces in key spots especially on the defensive front. Linebackers Jack Poole and Ty Childress will look to lead the front seven, while Daniel Perkins will lead the secondary at defensive back.

“Obviously we’re going to need to execute We going to be mature and handle adversity, toughness, play with passion, discipline and build on our leadership,” Davis said. “That’s the maturity and confidence we need to see in the first game. Just go play and see what happens.”
